Frequently asked questions

If your central heating stops working it could be caused by something minor that can be rectified by resetting your boiler or increasing the water pressure. Some issues may be caused by power cuts or blown fuses. However, if you have tried all of the above any you’re still having issues, you’ll want to call a central heating engineer to carry out a heating repair.

Home Assist has a team of highly trained heating engineers who can carry out both gas and plumbing repairs to get your central heating system working again.

To make sure that your central heating system doesn’t break down in the middle of winter, when you really need it, it’s best to have it serviced every 12 months. We recommend central heating servicing during the summer months to give you peace of mind that your boiler and central heating is fit and healthy ahead of the cold seasons ahead.

If you’re a landlord, it is a legal requirement to have boilers and central heating systems serviced annually. Check out our Landlord Services for more information about what we can do for you.

Central heating maintenance is covered by our Premium and Combined home cover plans, starting from just £14/month. With our home emergency cover plans, you’ll also receive coverage for a range of other services, including boiler repair and servicing, plumbing, and electrics.

Your radiators need bleeding. It’s easy to tell if your radiator(s) need bleeding. Usually in this situation, only one radiator in your home will be cold, and you will probably find that the top half of the radiator is significantly colder than the bottom half. Read our blog on how to bleed radiators to fix the problem yourself.

Your thermostat is broken, or is set incorrectly If all of the radiators in your home are affected, first check that your thermostat is turned on and is set correctly. If everything is as it should be, consider calling out a Home Assist qualified engineer to take a look at the problem.

You have a boiler or central heating system failure Unless there is an obvious leak in the system, you probably won’t be able to identify the problem yourself. In these situations, it’s best to call out a qualified heating engineer to take a look at the problem, and get your system back up and running safely. Never attempt to fix a broken boiler yourself as this can be dangerous, and you could make the problem worse.

Home Assist serves Newcastle and the North of England for central heating maintenance. We also offer a range of other services including boiler repairs and servicing, electrical repairs and installations, plumbing repairs and installations, and landlord services.
